“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.” (Pro 31:8-9 NIV)
There are probably over 100 passages in Scripture that deal with helping the poor and the destitute. Both those that are physically poor and poor in spirit. It is our duty as Christians to help them whenever and however we can!
Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” (Mat 19:21 NIV)
When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” (Luk 18:22 NIV)
All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do. (Gal 2:10 NIV)
If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.
(1Jo 3:17-18 NIV)
Grace & Peace,
